In 1888 George Bower brought his family to Harrison. With his three sons Frank, Herb and Will he established a factory making Bower Wagons. The Bower Brothers' factory constructed surreys with fringe on top, buggies and circus rolling stock. It may have been Boone county's first manufacturing effort. With a barrel of whiskey and $500 worth of herbs, powders and liniments, Leonidas Kirby drove into Harrison in 1871 and opened a drug store with the most modern cures and treatments available. For years he was known by his huge bay fox trotter, a horse so well trained that he could sleep on the way home from house calls. Three sons and a grandson have also doctored in Harrison. Frank is shown here in front of the Kirby home.
